CAT(Computerized Adaptive Testing) is the method to evaluate examinees' achievements by using a minimum number of exam question within a short time, unlike the current written test. However, in order to utilize a PC based CAT, we have to solve some problems with time, place, and the number of examinees. For the purpose of overcoming these difficulties, we compared the written test and the program which utilized both SPRT and EXSPRT R that are representative algorithms of PDA based CAT We applied these programs to the JLPT exam level 4 for 10 examinees. After that, we analyzed the merits and demerits in comparison with written test and the test using PDA as a result, we made and efficient analysis of the examinees' achievements, without regard to time or place. Because we overlooked a certain number of examinees and the difficulty of the exam, we didn't achieve a satisfactory conclusion, in the case of SPRT. However, in the case of EXSPRT R, we came to the conclusion that it would be more beneficial to use CAT with fewer examinees.
