The purpose of this study was to estimate the prevalence of chronic overuse injuries (COIs) in sport poomsae taekwondo athletes in Alberta, Canada. A cross sectional survey was used. A total of 26 athletes participated in this research. Each athlete must meet the criteria for subject selection such as a black belt level. In results, a total of 19 (73%) athletes reported COI symptoms. Female athletes showed a higher prevalence rate than their male counterparts (53% vs. 47%). The higher frequency of COI was observed among athletes who practiced taekwondo more than three times a week. The lower body region (58%), the knee joint (68%), was the dominant injured body part. A total of 10 athletes declared a history of injury in the previous year. Of these, 70% are suffering from COI symptoms. The hamstring pain was the most (50%). The most common type of past injury was strain (60%). In conclusions, overall prevalence rate of COI was high (73%) in sport-poomsae athletes.
