노인의 경제활동과 우울 증상의 관계: 노년기 경제활동에 대한 태도의 조절 효과 = The Relationship betweem Employment and Depressive symptoms among Korean Older Adults: The Moderation of Attitude Toward Working in Later life

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to examine the moderation of attitude toward working in later life in the relationship between working and depressive symptoms among older adults in Korea. This study used secondary data from the Survey of Living Conditions of Korean Older Persons and hierarchical multiple regression models were tested using a nationally representative sample of 10,451 community-dwelling older adults aged 65 and above. The results from analyses indicated that older workers were less likely to experience depressive symptoms than older adults who were not working and the association between working and depressive symptoms was moderated by attitude toward working in later life. When older adults work, older adults who have positive attitude toward working in later life reported less depressive symptoms than whom have negative attitude toward working. These results imply that social workers may need to intervene with attitude toward working in later life to help older workers to achieve more positive effects from their economic activities.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 노년기 경제활동 여부와 우울 증상의 관계에서 노년기 경제활동에 대한 태도의 조절 효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 전국노인실태조사 2014년도 자료를 이용하였고, 만 65세 이상 노인 10,451명을 대상으로 다중회귀분석을 하였다. 분석결과 경제활동을 하는 노인들은 경제활동을 하지 않는 노인들에 비교해 우울 증상이 적은 편이었고, 경제활동과 우울 증상의 관계는 노년기 경제활동에 대한 태도에 의해 조절되었다. 노년기 경제활동에 태도가 긍정적인 노인은 부정적인 노인에 비교해 경제활동을 하는 경우 우울 증상을 덜경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 노년기 경제활동의 긍정적 효과를 노인들이 더많이 얻도록 돕기 위해서는 노년기 경제활동에 대한 태도에 대한 점검이 필요함을 의미한다.
