The purpose of this study is to analyze and examine a costume clothes in the Netherlands, a newly-emerging maritime nation in the seventeenth century, through the paintings of Hals, Rembrandt, and Vermer, the representative artists at that times, and make it useful to other studies. The methods of this study is a analysis and examination with the fashion literature and visual materials.
The results of the study are as followings:
First, it has straight silhouette in consideration of activities and practical uses. Secondly, white linen apron and folded headdress are items for practical uses. Thirdly, it has cape collar, a unique mode in the Netherlands. Fourthly, it has fur trimming coat under the influence of continental climate.
