열린교수-학습 방법을 통한 농ㆍ어촌 소규모 초등학교의 복식수업 개선에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 농어촌 소규모학교에서 실시되고 있는 복식수업의 현황과 실태를 파악하고, 현행 복식수업의 문제점을 규명하며, 다양한 열린 교수학습 방법을 적용하여 복식수업의 질을 개선할 수 있는 방안을 모색하려는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 전남 소재 5개의 복식교육 실시 초등학교에서 15명의 참가자와 77명의 설문지 응답자를 중심으로 참관, 심층적 면담 그리고 양적 방법을 활용하여 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구결과 밝혀진 복식학급에서 열린교육의 적용상의 문제로는 열린교육에 대한 정보와 자료의 부족, 교사의 복식수업 기술의 부족, 교수․학습자료의 부족, 교사와 행정가들의 이해 부족을 들 수 있다. 열린교육을 통한 복식 교수-학습 방법의 개선방안으로는 지적, 정의적 능력을 진작시키기 위한 방안과 열린교육에 대한 개념의 명료화 및 이에 준하는 교수-학습방법의 추출, 다양한 매체 활용 수업, 탄력적인 학습집단 및 학급 조직․운영, 원격교육 실시, 단식 수업화 방안이 강구되었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 복식학교에서 효율적인 열린교수-학습을 위해서 고려되어야 할 것으로 결과의 평등 추구, 학습권 보장, 소규모 학교교육의 장점에 대한 새로운 인식, 부정적 복식수업관 극복, 지역 특수성을 수용한 교육 추구, 복식학교의 교육환경을 개선하기 위한 투자 등이 제언되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of the study is to explore the realities of multi-grade teaching, the problems and the improving methods for the effective instruction in the rural small elementary schools. For the accomplishment of these purposes, the research is conducted by participant observation in five elementary schools located in Chonnam Province, in-dept interviewing with 15 teachers and questionnaire with 77 teachers for one and half years.

The findings are summarized as follows.
1) the identified problems of multi-grade teaching are low academic achievement, underdevelopment of social skills and unsatisfied teaching condition in the rural small schools. The lack of effective curriculum for the multi-grade teaching and teaching methods, the lack of teacher's experiences on multi-grade teaching, and insufficient support for the multi-grade teaching are also identified as the obstacles for the development of multi-grade teaching in the rural small elementary schools.
2) the problems identified in the application of open education into multi-grade teaching include the lack of information and materials, inexperiences of teaching skills, insufficient instructional materials, inadequate understanding on open education.
3) the improving methods for the development of multi-grade teaching are identified as the development and implementation of curriculum and teaching materials for multi-grade teaching, implementation of sufficient support and reward system for the multi-grade classroom teachers, activation of in-service training program for the multi-grade classroom teachers, and development of guide books for the multi-grade teaching.
4) the improving methods for the development of multi-grade teaching through open education are the pursuit of increasing methods for academic achievement and social skills, clarifying the concept of open education, implementation of diverse teaching methods on open education, consideration of various instructional methods included media, flexible study grouping and organization of classroom, introduction of distance education, and making adequate class size.

Based on these results, it is suggested that equality of the educational outcome, ensuring the right for learning of students, recognition of merits for rural small schooling, overcoming the restricted understanding for multi-grade teaching, the pursuit of local education, investment for the improvement of educational environment of multi-grade schools are considered for the development of multi-grade schooling.
