국가론의 관점에서 본 대한민국 건국의 특징과 의의 = An Analysis of the Foundation of the Republic of Korea from the Perspective of State Theory

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article seeks to explain the meaning of the foundation of the Republic
of Korea from the perspective of state theory. It will critically analyze the
formation of the ROK and its ideological foundation from modern state
theories. There emerged modern nationalistic consciousness after the March
1st Independence Movement of 1919 in Korea. The foundation of the ROK
can be construed as the process of establishing the republican form of state to
guarantee the freedom and property rights to the nation. This article will
emphasize the efforts of the political leaders in the founding process of the
ROK. The research on the foundation of the ROK from the perspective of
state theory is lacking despite its importance. The reasons can be found in the
historical interpretations of emphasizing the negative impact of the Korean
division and setting the reunification as the nation’s supreme goal. These
views are critically analyzed. This article begins by explaining the process of
state formation of the ROK with specific reference to Max Weber’s definition
of modern nation-state. It will explain the historical meaning of the
foundation of the ROK in the long history of the Korean nation. It concludes
by emphasizing the need for further analysis from the perspective of state
theory in the future.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 국가론의 관점에서 건국의 의의를 재조명하는 데 목적이 있다. 구체적으로 이 글은 근대국민국가 일반론의 관점에서 대한민국의 형성 과정과 특징 및 그 이념적 근거를 비판적으로 분석한다. 대한민국 건국은 3∙1운동 이후 민족주의적 의식을 갖고 공동체를 형성하고 있던 우리 민족에게 자유와 재산권을 보장하는 민주공화주의적 통치질서를 부여하는 과정으로 이해될 수 있다. 이 글은 건국이 건국 지도자들의 정치적 행위의 결과로 이루어진다는 점을 강조할 것이다. 건국의 중요성에도 불구하고 국가론의 관점에서 건국을 본격적으로 연구한 성과들은 찾아보기 어렵다. 그 가장 중요한 이유들로서 분단지향적이고 통일지상주의적 역사인식을 지적하고 이들 입장을 비판적으로 분석할 것이다. 이 글은 막스 베버의 근대국
가에 대한 개념적 정의를 논의의 출발점으로 삼아서 근대국가로서 대한민국의 형성 과정과 그 특징을 설명한다. 나아가 이 글은 구한말 이후 우리 민족사적 관점에서 건국이 어떠한 의의를 갖고 있는지를 분석할 것이다. 결론적으로 이 글은 국가론적 관점에서 건국에 대한 논의가 더욱 활발하게 이루어져야 한다는 점을 지적할 것이다.
