역사 창작물의 왜곡 논란과 역사학의 역할 : 드라마 <조선구마사> 사태의 경험을 바탕으로 = The Controversy Over the Distortion of Historical Creations and the Role of History: Based on the Experience of the Affair of the Drama“Joseon Exorcist(조선구사마)”

국문 초록 (Abstract)

2021년 역사 드라마 <조선구마사>를 둘러싼 역사 왜곡 논란이 있었다. 이를 둘러싼 사회적 관심과 주목은 매우 컸으며, <조선구마사>는 방영 시작하고 2회 만에 조기 종영이 되는 한국 방송 역사상 초유의 일을 겪기도 하였다. 하지만 이 사건이 진행될 때 정작 역사학계가 수행한 역할은 거의 없었다. 이는 한국의 역사학계가 대중 콘텐츠 담론에서 철저하게 소외되어 있음을 의미한다.
한국 역사학계는 역사 창작물에 대하여 고증을 문제 삼거나 학계의 연구 성과를 대중에게 소개하는 수준을 목표로 삼는 소극적 태도를 벗어나야 한다. 역사 창작물에 무분별하게 ‘역사 왜곡’이라는 딱지를 붙일 것이 아니라 ‘역사 변용’이라는 관점에서 접근할 필요가 있다. 역사학자들이 역사 창작물에 대한 적극적인 비평과 분석, 더 나아가 제작에도 최대한 참여하는 분위기를 조성해야 한다. 이를 위해 역사 창작물의 개념적 분류, ‘역사 왜곡’의 개념적 정의와 적용 문제, ‘팩션’과 같은 유행적 용어 사용의 적절성에 대한 고찰이 필요하다.

In 2021, there was a controversy over historical distortions surrounding the historical drama “Joseon Exorcist.” The social interest and attention surrounding this issue was very high, and “Joseon Exorcist” experienced an unprecedented event in the history of Korean broadcasting, which was the early termination of the show just two episodes after it began airing. However, when this case was being processed, the role played by the history community was almost non-existent. This means that the history community in Korea is completely marginalized from the discourse on popular content.
The history community in Korea needs to move away from a passive attitude that only questions historical creations for their historical accuracy or aims to introduce the research results of the academic community to the public. Rather than indiscriminately labeling historical creations as ‘historical distortion,’ it is necessary to approach them from the perspective of ‘historical transformation’. An atmosphere should be created in which historians actively participate in the creation, analysis, and even production of historical works. To this end, it is necessary to consider the conceptual classification of historical creations, the conceptual definition and application of the concept of ‘historical distortion’, and the appropriateness of using trendy terms such as ‘faction’.
