Mothers’ Facilitative Language Use for their Children with Hearing Impairment during Reading of Different Book Genres: Manipulative versus Narrative

국문 초록 (Abstract)

초기 읽기 기술들을 습득한 유아들은 이후에도 책읽기를 좋아하는 경향이 있는 반면 읽기를 배우는데 어려움을 경험한 유아들은 학령기를 통해 계속해서 읽기에 문제를 가지는 경향이 있다. 청각장애 유아들은 또래 비청각장애 유아들보다 읽기 장애에 더 취약할 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 청각장애유아를 가진 어머니들이 자녀들과 조작(manipulative) 및 이야기(narrative) 책읽기 동안 사용하는 언어기술들을 조사하고자 함이었다. 청각장애를 가진 네 명의 미국인 어머니들이 연구대상이었다. 책읽기 동안 각각의 어머니-유아 한 쌍으로부터 수집된 언어샘플을 분석하였다. 연구결과 네 명의 어머니들은 조작 및 이야기 책읽기 상호작용에서 낮은 수준의 언어기술들을 사용하였다. 또한 전반적인 촉진 언어기술 사용은 이야기 책읽기보다 조작 책읽기에서 더 많이 나타났다. 본 연구는 한국에서 청각장애유아를 가진 부모들과 유아교육전문가들을 위한 시사점을 제시한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to investigate what language techniques mothers used during both manipulative and narrative book reading with their hearing-impaired children. Four mothers of children with hearing impairment were the subjects of the study. Language samples from each mother-child dyad during the book reading were collected and analyzed. The results showed that all mothers used lower level language techniques in the manipulative and narrative book readings. Also, the overall use of facilitative language techniques occurred more in the manipulative book reading than in the narrative.
