The rapid expansion of digital technologies, generative AI, and multimodal learning environments has intensified the need to redesign General English so that it functions not merely as a language-skills course but as an entry point into liberal arts education. Recent studies highlight that technology-enhanced English learning, flipped learning, CLIL, PBL, and AI-mediated literacy practices significantly influence students’ engagement, cultural understanding, and higher-order thinking. Against this backdrop, this study proposes a Liberal English Track that integrates CLIL, PBL, and generative-AI strategies to reconstruct General English as a foundation for liberal arts competencies. The research analyzes domestic findings on General English innovation, liberal arts theory, and AI-assisted learning, while examining institutional models such as East Asia University’s “Yungseok Project.” Methodologically, it combines conceptual analysis, curriculum modeling, and evaluation design to build an integrated instructional and assessment framework. The results suggest that CLIL supports interdisciplinary content learning, PBL fosters inquiry and collaborative problem-solving, and generative AI strengthens critical literacy, rhetorical structuring, and self-regulated learning. These components merge to form a coherent Liberal English Track that bridges language, cognition, culture, and academic inquiry. The study concludes that this model can enhance core liberal arts capacities—reasoning, interpretation, communication, and cultural understanding—while providing a scalable foundation for Bachelor of Liberal Arts (BLA) programs and institution-wide CQI-based quality management.
