Korea is the only country ideologically divided in the world. Lately, world situations are radically changing such as collapse of the former USSR, down-fall of central & eastern european countries' socialism system, and the unification of German. And North Korea's present economic crisis has us take a positive prospect that the Korean Peninsula will be unified in the near future. Many specialists on the Korean Peninsula problems cautiously predict that Korea will be unified until the beginning of 2000. Indeed, the Korean Peninsula's unification is now a matter of actual fact, not of ideal, and we shouldn't only wait for our nation's unification but ought to prepare and cultivate unification circumstances. With the 1945 Liberation, South Korea and North Korea have steadily built a different land ownership and its management system : South Korea accepted capitalism based on free market and allowed private land ownership largely as well as state ownership, but North Korea adopted socialist planned economy and permitted only state land ownership and cooperative ownership, strictly denying private land ownership, like many other socialist nations. After unification, what's the desirable model of unified Korea's land ownership system? How can be unified the different land ownership between South and North Korea which has lasted for longer than 50 years? And, how should the unified Korea handle the ownerships of a great many lands which were compulsively confiscated in North Korea since 1945? This paper is, as one of preparing for unification, the analysis and arrangement of North Korea's landed property. This study is also related to the role of KOLAND(Korea Land Corporation) that initiatively performs Korea's land policy in the first line. The paper consists of 5 sections. In the first section, the paper describes about general land ownership system of socialist nations, involving the transformation of the legal and the economic system of socialist planned economy. The paper secondly covers North Korea's landownership thought and land legal system, and in the third section attempts to get some lesson from North Korea's land ownership in history since, the land reform of 1946. In the fourth section, it describes North Korea's current land ownership system and tries to compare South Korea's land ownership system with North Korea's. Finally, this monograph explains some of North Korea's laws related th land by turns : For example, Constitution Law, Civil Law, Land Law, and Land Lease Law of North Korea. We wish that this paper can be helpful to analyze the land ownership system and its laws in North Korea in order to prepare for the Korea's unification.
