The purpose of this study was to examine the associations between maternal satisfaction, parenting behaviors, and children’s patterns of attachment to their mother. One hundred-three children(52 boys, 51 girls) attending a preschool in Jeon-ju participated in this study. The age of the children was 4-5years. The representation of attachment to their mother was assessed using a Attachment Story Completion Task(ASCT). ASCT, developed by Bretherton, Ridgeway and Cassidy(1990), consisted of an examiner using family figures and props to introduce attachment related stories, which the children were asked to complete. Maternal satisfaction and parenting behaviors were evaluated by mother using a questionnaire. The results of the study were as follows : First, among 103 children, 75.5% were classified as secure, 12.6% were classified as insecure-avoidant, and 11.7% were classified as insecure-disorganized. Second, among maternal satisfaction, “parent’s role conflict” was significant relationship in attachment. Third, among parenting style, authoritarian parenting style, authoritative parenting style, and permissive parenting style were significant relationship in secure attachment and neglect parenting style was significant relationship in insecure attachment. Fourth, there were significant effect of children’s birth order, parent’s role conflict, and control on attachment security. The attachment was related negatively to the variables such as ‘children’s birth order’ and ‘parents role conflict’ and positively to the variable such as ‘control’.
