      국문 초록 (Abstract)

      이『철학의 주요 개념 1․2』는 글쓴이가 기회 있을 때마다 철학 논의에서 자주 등장하는 기초 개념들에 대해 풀이한 것을 모아 이미『철학의 주요 개념 1』(서울대학교 철학사상연구소,2003)과 『철학의 주요 개념 2』(서울대학교 인문대학,2003)로 펴낸 바 있는 것을 다시금 합본하면서 가필 증보한 것이다.
      ‘철학’이라는 새로운 낱말이 생기고,철학이라는 학문이 서양으로부터 한국 사회 문화에 유입되고,그를 계기로 한국의 전통 사상을 ‘한국 철학’또는 ‘동양 철학’이라는 이름 아래서 재정리하고 재음미하기 시작한 것이 어느덧 1세기가 넘었다.그 사이 철학은 모든 사상의 근원이고,철학은 근본학(根本學,radicalscience)으로서 모든 학문이 철학으로부터 분가(分家)해 나갔으며,그런 만큼 철학은 만학의 본가(本家)로서 여전히 만학에 남겨져 있는 원리적인 문제를 성찰하여 끊임없이 새로운 식견을 제공하여야 할 사명을 가지고 있음도 폭넓게 인정되었다.그렇기에 철학이 성(盛)하다는 것은 그 사회 문화가 토대를 갖추고 있음을 말하고, 철학이 부단히 자기 반성을 한다는 것은 그 사회 문화의 제학문이 단단한 기반을 닦아가고 있음을 말한다.
      이런 인식 아래서 한국 철학계는 1990년대에 이르러 지난 1세기 간의 철학계 활동을 정리 평가하고 우리말 개념을 정돈함으로써 한국 학술 문화의 근본을 다지는 사업을 폈다.한국철학회,철학연구회 등이 앞장을 섰고,서울대학교 철학사상연구소는 1994년부터 많은 이들의 협력을 얻어 <서구 철학사상의 유입과 그 평가> 작업을 수행하여 그 성과물을 기관지 철학사상 (제4호[1994]~제8호[1998])을 통하여 공표한 바 있다.
      글쓴이도 이 같은 사업에 동참하여 독일철학과 20세기 한국의ii 철학 (철학과현실사,1998․2000)을 저술하고, 해방 50년의 한국철학 (철학연구회 편,철학과현실사,1996), 한국철학의 쟁점 (한국철학회 편,철학과현실사,2000), 현대철학의 정체성과 한국철학의 정립 (철학연구회 편,철학과현실사,2002), 우리말 철학사전 1 (우리사상연구소 편,지식산업사,2001), 우리말 철학사전2 (우리사상연구소 편,지식산업사,2002), 우리말 철학사전 3 (우리사상연구소 편,지식산업사,2003)등의 공저를 출간했는바, 여기에 기고했던 글들을 한 자리에 모아 다듬고 그것들의 짝이 되는 항목들을 추가하여 이 개념 해설서를 엮은 것이다.
      현대 한국 철학의 논의에서는 한국의 전통적인 철학 사상에 대한 견식뿐만 아니라,서양 철학에 대한 정확한 이해 또한 필수적이며,현재 통용되고 있는 철학 술어(術語)에 대한 충분한 이해 역시 필수적이다.그것은 서양 철학 유입기의 한국사의 사정상 일본에서 19세기 후반부터 사용되었거나 현재 통용되고 있는 철학 술어에
      대한 이해 역시 불가결함을 말한다.근년에 이에 대한 관심도 높아져 일본 근대 철학사 (미야카와 토루․아라카와 이쿠오 엮음 /이수정 옮김,생각의 나무,2001)와 번역어 성립 사정 (야나부 아키라 지음 /서혜영 옮김,일빛,2003)등이 번역 출간되었다.이런 저작들은 우리의 철학 개념 이해에도 적지 않은 도움이 된다 하겠다.
      많은 분들의 저간의 성찰과 연구 성과를 참조하여, 글쓴이는 앞으로도 철학 언어를 우리말로 다듬고 그를 바탕으로 철학의 주요 개념들을 잇따라 해설하려 한다.아무쪼록 글쓴이의 이 같은작업이 철학 전문가들의 노고의 결실을 널리 활용되게 함으로써 한국 학술 문화의 토대를 견실하게 하는 데 다소나마 보탬이 되기를 바란다.
