      The purpose of this thesis is to review Xiaojingzhijie(孝經直解) and it’s whereabouts in Joseon Dynasty.
      Xiaojingzhijie is a book in which Guan-Yunshi(貫雲石) translated Xiaojing(孝經) directly in Chinese during the Yuan Dynasty around 1308. This book has pictures at the top and Chinese text below it.
      Xiaojing was recognized as an important book during the Yuan Dynasty. Xiaojing published in 1307, Tuxiang Xiaojing(圖象孝經), when Kaishan of the Yuan ascended to the throne, contains pictures. This Tuxiang Xiaojing has a possibility of being Xiaojingzhijie, because of the publication date is close with it.
      In the Joseon Dynasty, Xiaojingzhijie was called Jikhea-Hyogyeong(直解孝經) and Seongjae-Hyogyeong(成齋孝經). And it was used as a textbook for translation studies of Seungmoonwon(承文院) in the early days. Looking at the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, in 1423, Yejo(禮曹) requested to print the Jikhea-Hyogyeong because there was no version of it, so people copied it and passed it on.
      Looking at Joseonwangjosillok, there is a content that Yejo requested an official publication in Jujaso(鑄字所) because there was no version of the book of Xiaojingzhijie in 1423, so people copied it and passed it on. However, looking at the articles after that, it does not appear that Hyogyeong-jikhae was officially published. And there is a record that Yejo suggested not to include the Hyogyeong-jikhae in translator exam.
      Currently, the only complete version of Xiaojingzhijie was owned by Hideichi Hayashi(林秀一) of Japan. A complete Xiaojingzhijie has not been found in Korea as well as in China. Therefore, it is not possible to grasp the specific facts of when and how Xiaojingzhijie came and spread in Korea.
      There are three possible reasons why a version of Xiaojingzhijie does not appear in Korea. First, it may have been lost because it was not officially published, not properly preserved. Second, it is possible that books that were published or transmitted were lost or moved due to historical reasons such as war or colonization. Third, there is a possibility that it exists in North Korea or that it is in the possession of an individual in Korea but has not been made public.
