The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of performance avoidance on the relationship between perfectionism and academic procrastination. And additionally, For these aims of this study, a total of 559 middle school students from 2 different middle schools completed Achievement goal orientation scale, Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale(MPS), and Procrastination Assessment Scale-Student(PASS). A multiple regression analysis conducted to clarify he mediating effect of performance avoidance on the relationship between perfectionism and academic procrastination. When performance avoidance was partialled out, the effect of perfectionism on the academic procrastination was still significant, but size of that was decreased. These results showed that performance avoidance partially mediate the relationship between perfectionism and academic procrastination. To consider the facts mentioned above, it seemed to be necessary to make fundamental and appropriate approaches to deal with the academic procrastination. Above all it was essential that the helping professions played an important role in understanding and helping those who had the difficulty or the discomfort due to procrastination, and in making an effort to develop effective programs for overcoming procrastination.
Finally, the clinical implications and several limitations of the present study were discuss.
