근대 불교잡지의 동화와 그 설화 전승상의 의의 -『불교』 ‘소년란’을 중심으로 - = The Fairy Tale in Buddhist Magazine at Modern Times and the Import of it in the Handing down of Folk Tale - Centering around the Fairy Tales Inserted in the Boy Column of Buddhism -

I studied the source, type, characteristic, and import of the fairy tale in Buddhist magazine at modern times in this essay. Most of the fairy tales in Buddhist magazine at modern times made retelling the tale transmitted in the light of the real of nation and Buddhism community, the situation of children who were in an awkward situation in such condition, and the dream of them, as the fairy tale transmitted. And part of them is the fairy tale from creation that made fresh production reflect the reality in those days but partly borrowed motif in the tale transmitted.These fairy tale intended to illuminate the virtue needed in children, saying Buddhist meaning ultimately but here is the complex problems regarding the real of nation and Buddhism community, the children of Buddhism community, and the children general in those days.In this point, the fairy tales in Buddhist magazine at modern times have significance for the cultural movement intended for children in the 1920’s. And the fairy tales is significant as the aspect of modern variations in connection with the handing down of tale in that they made the most of the type and motif in the tale transmitted and made retelling them in the light of the real at modern times.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 근대 불교잡지에 수록된 동화의 근원과 유형, 특징, 의의 등을 검토한 것이다. 근대 불교잡지의 동화는 대부분 전래동화로 전승 설화를 가져다 당시 민족 내지 불교계의 현실, 그리고 그 속에서 가장 곤란한 처지에 빠진 어린이의 처지와 꿈에 맞게 재화한 것이다. 혹은 창작동화로 당시의 현실을 반영하여 새로 제작하되 전래의 설화모티프를 부분적으로 차용한 경우도 있다.이들 동화의 제작 의도는 궁극적으로 불교적 취의를 제시하면서 어린이에게 필요한 덕목을 계발하기 위한 것이지만 여기에는 당시 민족 내지 불교계의 현실, 불교 어린이 널리는, 일반 어린이의 문제가 복잡하게 얽혀 있다. 이러한 점에서 근대 불교잡지 동화는 1920년대 어린이 문화운동으로서의 의의가 있다. 또한 근대 불교잡지 동화는 1920년대에 전승되던 설화 중에서 어린이들에게 적합한 이야기 유형 내지 모티프를 골라 재화하되 당시의 현실에 맞게 재창조한 것이다. 따라서 이들 동화는 전승되던 설화 유형과 모티프를 활용하여 근대의 현실에 맞게 재화했다는 점에서 설화 전승에 있어 근대적 변이의 한 양상으로서 의미가 있다.
