포스트휴먼의 기억하기: 글쓰기에서 알고리즘의 기억실행으로 = Posthuman Memory Practices: From Writing to Algorithmic Memory Practices

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 장에서는 매체와 끊임없이 연결되고 끊어지며 (재)조합되는 포스트휴먼의 기억하기에 대해 탐구한다. 신체와 분리된 정보를 저장하고 처리하는 기술의 새로운 양식이 나타나고, 사라지고, 정착하는 동안 인간은 언제나 기계와 결합한 포스트휴먼이었다. 우리는 어느 날 갑자기 포스트휴먼이 ‘된’ 것이 아니다. 인공지능과 4차 산업혁명의 도래가 포스트휴먼 담론을 새로운 것처럼 보이게 하지만 사실 일상을 기록하고 기억하는 주체는 언제나 신체 외부에서 기억을 저장하고 처리하는 기술과 결합한 포스트휴먼이었다. 이 장은 최근 새로운 기억의 양식으로 등장한 알고리즘기반 매체가 기록에서 기억을 만들어내는 과정을 살펴보면서 달라진 기억의 기술문화적 양식과 조건을 살펴볼 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

‘Posthuman’ has been one of the most cited discourses in the age of artificial intelligence. However, we have not suddenly become posthuman, but we have always been posthuman through our technological engagements in memory practices. As Bernard Stiegler argues, human memory practices are inherently associated with technologies and techniques that exteriorize our memories. Starting with (or before) drawing and writing in ancient times, acts of remembering have been linked to various material aids or media. Historically, writing complements the limited capacity of human memory. Electronic media capture and store what the human body hears and sees. In the late nineteenth and early twenty-first century, many different forms of electronic storage media, mobile and wearable devices promise increased capacity to capture and store larger volumes, even with minimal human engagements. Moreover, with the integration of artificial intelligence into daily media, the medium moves from an interest in technologically recording an external world to a focus on algorithmic processing and reanimation of already registered digital traces of memory. This chapter demonstrates what ‘posthuman memory practices’ are in our historical engagements with these media, focusing on how our modes of memory practices have been reshaped in the historical and emerging media that make us posthuman.
