Folk dances as the most ancient traditional play, are an artistic genre originated from a sense of group, having a magic and musical function to cheer us up. A drum dance, one of these kinds, has extempore and enthusiastic characters at the same time, which is spontaneously danced to a gay tune and has lots of impromptu dance movements. The features of the drun dance are as follows: First, it is naturally derived from the community life, whose emotion represents our racial characteristice, and connected with the life of the people. Second, it has an originality to play and accompaniment of dance as a simple musical instrument and its melody brings about an enthusiasm and has us spontaneously dance. Third, in all our folk events, it has a relation with shamanism and is linked with a magical function. Our people have believed that the resonant sound of the drum pleases the God, thus it has been used at exorcisms or ritual ceremonies, and performed with encganting rituals. Finally, we can enumerate the simplicty, improvisation and paricipation of the public, and as it is danced based on enthusiasm and excitement, so it makes spectators the subject. It is thought that our drum dance with these excellent sides, has the value of succession and preservation as itself and will be the foundation of creating work of new art, and our assignment is to perform a creative drum dance based on tradition.
