The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of self-leadership of a hotel employee on innovative behavior and the moderating effect of the work-motivation on the relationship between self-leadership and innovative behavior. The model tested suggests that self-leadership affects innovative behavior by moderating motivation, which in turn prompts employees to reciprocate with innovative behaviors. This research based on the results offered these outcomes as follows: First, self-leadership indicated that constructive thought pattern strategies and natural reward strategies were positively related to innovative behavior. This study showed, however, that behavior-focused strategies and self problem-solving strategies were not related to innovative behavior. Hence, the hypothesis 1 was partially supported. Second, research refined behavior-focused strategies were positively supported when extrinsic motivation can act as a prominent moderator between self-leadership and innovative behavior, not intrinsic motivation. That is, not only did intrinsic motivation moderate but extrinsic motivation also strongly moderated to the relationship between self-leadership and innovative behavior. Thus, the most important finding of this research is that extrinsic motivation is a consequential moderator in the relationship between self-leadership and innovative behavior. Therefore, the hypothesis 2 was also partially supported.
