불임여성의 개인 대인 및 사회체제 반응에 관한 예비연구 = A Pilot Study on Personal, Interpersonal and Social System Reactions of Infertile Women

The purpose of this pilot study was to describe personal, interpersonal and social system reactions of infertile women. This descriptive exploratory study was method of choice because it focuses on the discovery of the reactions to infertility through interview. 5 infertile women from 1 university hospitals in Seoul was conveniently sampled. Data was collected from the 7th of Nov. to the 22nd of Nov. 1989, by means of in-depth interview. The subjects' descriptions were recorded and described in the six categories: perception, self-image, marital relation, sex-role, status and decision-making.
The results of this study were summarized as follows:
1. Infertile women experienced emotional disturbances loneliness, withering, impatience, oppressed and anxiety.
2. 2 infertile women perceived themselves unworthy and defective.
3. Infertile women formed closer bond with their partner. But, in sexual relation, they had inactive sexual attitudes.
4. Infertile women had traditional role conception they also had greater occupation commitment to compensate for the mother role option which does not exist for them and had strong belief in religion.
5. Infertile women sensed a loss of status among family who have children.
6. For infertile women, infertility became all-encompassing work in their lives and expressed ambiguity as uncertainty about pregnancy.
