influences of sodium silicate and ferric salt on the flotation of calcite, scheelite and fluorite by sodium oleate in the Hallimond tube were examined. sodium silicates used are three kinds: the molar ratio of SiO_2 to Na_2O is 1:1, 2:1, and 3:1, respectively. The higher the molar ratio of sodium silicate, the stronger the depression of the minerals, indicating that the depressing action is due to colloidal cilica evolved from the sodium silicate. In the case of pre-treatment using sodium silicate followed by ferric salt, however, the higher the molar ratio of sodium silicate, the weaker the depressing action, showing that the entity of depre-ssing in this case is quite or somewhat different from the above-mentioned colloidal silica. Anyhow, calcite only is completely depressed by the pre-treatment using sodium silicate followed by ferric salt.
