The purpose of this study was to examine the histopathological & functional effect of methotrexate locally injected in the fallopian tube of the rats. The study was performed in two phases. The objective in the first phase was to define any structural & cytological changes in the epithelium of the rats oviduct when injected locally with various amounts & concentrations of methotrexate. There were no structural or cytological changes of the tubal mucosal epithelium. The objective in the second phases was to evaluate the effect of methotrexate on the reproductive function of the ratts oviduct. The nidation index was used to measure the fertility of the animals. The difference of the nidation index between study & control group was not statistically significant. In the conclusion, tubal injection of MTX has no detrimental effect on tubal structure & on fertility of rats.
