가온반 유아들의 자연물을 활용한 역할놀이 경험 탐색 = Exploring the role-play experiences of children in the Gaon class using natural materials

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 유아들의 자연물을 활용한 역할놀이를 관찰하고 그 의미를 분석하여 자연물 역할놀이에 대한 이해를 돕는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 2024년 10월부터 12월까지 S시 공립유치원 4세 유아 13명을 대상으로 참여관찰, 현장 노트, 연구일지, 유아 면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 유아들은 자연물을 음식, 도구, 인물, 공간 등 자신의 일상 경험을 표현하는 데 활용하였다. 또한 TV와 그림책 등 매체를 통해 경험한 가상 세계를 표현하는 매개체로 활용하였다. 자연물을 활용한 역할놀이 과정에서 유아들은 자연물 탐색을 통해 자연의 변화를 인식하고, 놀이 중 발생한 문제를 해결하는 인지적 경험을 하였다. 자연물의 가변성은 다양한 상징적 의미 부여를 가능하게 하였으며, 자유롭게 이야기를 구성해 가며 상상력을 확장시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 자연물의 심미적 특성이 놀이에 반영되었다. 이 과정에서 유아들은 또래와의 협력적 놀이를 경험하였으며, 자연과 함께하는 놀이에 대한 만족감과 기쁨을 표현하였다. 이러한 결과는 유아교육기관에서 주변 환경을 활용한 자연물 역할놀이를 체계적으로 지원할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

This study aimed to enhance understanding of role play using natural materials by observing young children’s role play and analyzing its meanings. Data were collected through participant observation, field notes, research journals, and interviews with children. Participant observation was conducted with 13 4-year-old children enrolled in a public kindergarten located in S City from October to December 2024. The findings showed that children used natural materials to express their everyday experiences, including foods, tools, people, and places. Natural materials were also used as mediating tools to represent imaginary worlds experienced through media such as television programs and picture books. During role play with natural materials, children engaged in cognitive experiences by exploring natural materials to recognize changes in nature and by solving problems that arose during play. The variability of natural materials enabled diverse symbolic meanings and supported the expansion of imagination through freely constructed narratives. In addition, the aesthetic qualities of natural materials were reflected in play. Through this process, children experienced cooperative play with peers and expressed satisfaction and joy in playing with nature. These findings suggest the need for early childhood education institutions to systematically support role play using natural materials by actively utilizing surrounding environments.
