The recent vehicle-buying pattern has been changed in North America from simple passenger type vehicles 10 various type vehicles The FMVSS214 and LINCAP lests have played an important role in vehicle evaluation for side crash performance during last decade. These tests use a moving deformable barrier (MDB) to represent prevailing vehicle in the market. But existing MDB used in FMVSS214 or LINCAP does not satisfy such requirement. SUV (sport utilily vehicle) and light pick-up truck are not regarded in spite of increasing their market share.<br/>
lIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) is preparing new test procedure to satisfy such demanding. The new test is designed to simulate side impact accident by SUV or light pick-up truck. According to the new MDB design, vehicle structure developed for FMVSS214 should be improved considerably. In this paper, computer simulation was done to suggest new design criteria for IIHS side test.<br/>
