      This essay explores the historical background of the compilation of Wan Qing Wen Xuan in the mid-1930s，and trys to indicate the main points of Zheng Zhenduo’s view on the Late Qing period. Zheng’s motive to edit such an anthology is incented by contemporary literary trends, while also inspired by AYing，who was just focusing on the study of Late Qing. Zheng shows aspecific awareness of the importance of the Late Qing literature, which makes him one of the pioneers in that study area. His opinion on the time category of Late Qing as a historical concept, as well as his statement about the characteristics of that period, can still be illuminating today.
