For the purpose of comparing the effects of the extract of sib-jun-dea-bo dicoction with those of acanthopanas sessiliforum seemenn. both of which being used at tonic(stamina drugs) in the oriental medicine on the testis development.
72 heads chickens(52 days old) which were seperated 3 groups; fed them with commercial poultry foods and supplied the extract of sib-jun-dea-bo dicoction and acanthopanas sessiliforum seemenn in stead of water, one group was supplied with flesh water during 56 days.
Slaughtered 6 heads from among the three groups per 14 days respectively. observed the weight of body and testis, and the historic of testis as well.
The results obtained in this experiment are as follows:
1. The increase of weight was visible in the groups fed with the extract of sib-jun-dea-bo dicociton and acanthopanas sessiliforum seemenn but not in the control group. The extract of sib-jun-dea-bo dicoction was more effective than that of acanthopanas sessiliforum seemenn in the growth of testisia and increase of body weight.
2. As to diametric size of testis, 28 days group fed with extract of sib-jun-dea-bo dicoction appeared simillar in size with that of 42 days group fed with acanthopanas sessiliforum seemenn and the control group.
3. Seminiferous tubules after 14 days were found more obvious in the sib-jun-dea-bo dicoction administration than in acanthopanas sessiliforum seemenn but in the control group after 28 days, seminiferous tubules could only be visibly feebly.
4. In the effect of the extract of sib-jun-dea-bo dicoction administration. sperm and mass of spermatid were observed in 42 days and sperm in the seminiferous tubules appeared in 56 days already but were not developed well in other two groups.
As the result of all this, the extract of sib-jun-dea-bo dicoction has more valuable effects for tonic for tonic for man than those of acanthopanas sessiliform seemenn in oriental medicine and acanthopanas sessiliforum seemenn seems not adequate to be used as tonic in oriental medicine.
