A study was conducted on the modification plan of AC/DC combined use for the operation of a South Korea electric locomotive in North Korea. By comparing the circuit structure of the existing AC/DC combined vehicle, the necessary modifications were derived, and a modification plan for each item was suggested. In the modification plan, it is suggested to add an AC/DC changeover switch that can select AC 25kV or DC 3kV depending on the power source, a DC circuit breaker that can break DC current, and contactors for separating modules. It is also suggested that small modifications of the existing electric locomotive could make it possible to operate in North Korea. In addition, it was shown that it is possible to use the existing device as it is by directly connecting a DC power source to the power conversion device, and supply power to an auxiliary power conversion device having a different DC voltage by using the reverse control of the converter.
