1502년명 천성산 관음사 목조보살좌상 연구 = A Study on Wooden Bodhisattva Statue built in 1502 at Gwanumsa temple in Chunseongsan

As turma (votive objects place inside statues of the Buddha; 腹藏物) was unearthed, the wooden Bodhisattva Statue enshirned at Wongwangsa temple (元光寺) in Dongraegu-district Busan-city was revealed to be manufactured in Hongchi 15 (1502), and to be remanufactured in 1706. The Statue shows commanding presence with broad shoulder and straight posture, and has characteristics such as a longish statue body, plain face and simple format, In particular, serious facial expression, long hair fallen down to shoulder and simple format without decoration of necklace and jewels are distinguished features not shown at other Bodhisattva in the same period. The various turma inside Bodhisattva Statue were unearthed, and exact contents of the turma became known by the inscription(發願文). Local common residents and monks were joined to build the Statue. It was originally built in bronze Amitabha triad in 1364, after disappearing attendant Bodhisattva images, but it was said to be rebuilt in wood in the year 1502 to be enshrined Buddha triad. Also the enshrined temple was verified as Gwanumsa temple (觀音寺) in Cheonsungsan Mt. (天聖山), whose temple was originally located at Eunsanhyun(殷山縣) province in Pyungannamdo Province. Among votive objects, brass bowl with a lid shaping eight leaves, various grains wrapping in paper and Ginseng were noticed. Particularly, as a result of evaluating radiation carbon measurement, manufacturing year of the Ginseng was verified around 1060 CE (±80BP) which was the unique Goryeo Ginseng. The Bodhisattva seated Statue in Ganumsa temple at Chunseong Mt. was manufactured in King Yeonsan period (1495-1506) of Joseon dynasty, and showed characteristics of Buddhist statue and period life of the 16th Century. In addition to that, in the point of various votive objects and first unearthed Goryo Ginseng, the statue has a important value.
