Schwartz의 보편적 가치 이론의 적용 타당성 연구：한국대학생을 대상으로 = Extending the Validity of the Schwartz's Universal Value Theory：The Case of Korean University Students

The purpose of the current study was to examine the validity of Schwartz's value theory to Korean university students. This study employed the 57-item Schwartz Value Survey (SVS; Schwartz, 1994) and conducted similarity structure analysis to examine the value structure and contents among Korean University students (n=582). The results indicated a consistency with the theoretical model proposed by Schwartz. The value structures of Korean university students were similar to Schwartz' theoretical model with several variations. Eight out of 10 value domains were identified as discrete and 2 value domains (Benevolence and Conformity) were combined. Fifty-one out of 57 values emerged in the postulated locations. Implications for cross-cultural differences in values were discussed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 Schwartz(1992)가 제시한 보편적 가치이론을 국내 대학생들에게 적용하여 그 구조와 내용이 비교문화적 관점에서 적용 타당한지를 경험적으로 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 총 582명의 대학생들을 대상으로 Schwartz가(1994) 개발한 가치 설문지인 SVS(Schwartz Value Survey：SVS)들을 사용하여 연구대상자들의 가치 항목들에 대한 중요도 평정을 실시하고, 유사성 구조 분석(similarity structure analysis：SSA)을 실시하였다. 연구결과, Schwartz의 가치이론에서 제시한 10개의 가치영역들 중에서 8개가 독립된 가치영역으로 확인되었으며, 두 개의 가치영역(‘박애'와 ‘동조')은 통합되어 하나의 가치영역으로 확인되었다. 이 중 ‘박애’와 ‘전통’의 순서와 ‘성취’와 ‘권력’의 가치영역은 Schwartz의 이론에서 제시된 바와 달리 가치영역의 순서가 바뀌었다. 또한 57개의 가치항목들 중에서 6개의 가치항목이 이론에서 제시된 것과는 다른 영역에 위치하였다. 본 연구 결과 Schwartz의 이론에서 제시된 가치구조와 내용은 비교문화적 관점에서 대체적으로 적용 가능성을 지니는 것으로 나타났다. 가치구조와 내용의 부분적 차이에 대해서는 문화적 맥락에서 논의하였다.
