중세 예술과 교육의 만남: 신비와 상징교육의 매개체로써 비잔틴과 로마네스크 양식을 중심으로.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 중세 기독교와 교육이 예술이라는 상징을 통하여 격정적으로 만나고 있음을 주장한다. 예술과 교육이 격정적으로 포옹한 중세를 탐구하면서 그동안 분리되어 연구되어왔던 중세의 역사, 종교, 신학, 미학, 예술을 기독교교육의 차원에서 융합하고 재구성한다. 중세 사회에서 예술은 글을 읽고 쓸 수 없었던 부분의 기독교인들에게 성경 이야기들과 교리들을 가르치는 기독교교육의 매개체 역할을 훌륭하게 감당했다.
첫째, 이 연구는 중세 예술과 교육의 상관관계성을 연구하면서, 중세 종교적 상징과 초월적 신비를 예술적 상상력을 통하여 중세 기독교인들을 교육한 매개체가 중세 예술이라는 사실을 주장한다.
둘째, 중세 신비교육사상과 상징교육사상의 미학적 배경이 된 어거스틴의 ‘위로부터 내려오는 하강의 미학’과 아퀴나스의 ‘아래로부터 올라가는 상승의 미학’을 소개하고, 중세 성상파괴논쟁으로부터 중세 예술의 기독교교육적인 특성과 역할을 분석한다.
셋째, 이 연구는 기독교적 상징과 신비 교육의 매개체로서 중세 비잔틴과 로마네스크 양식의 특성을 비교하고 분석한다. 모자이크와 회화를 중심으로 발전한 비잔틴 예술과 조각 그리고 성서필사본그림 등을 중심으로 발전한 로마네스크 예술의 공통점과 차이점을 비교하면서, 중세 예술작품들 속에 내재되어 있는 수직교육, 신비교육, 그리고 상징교육의 요소들을 탐구한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explores the relationship between art and education in the middle age. The medieval Christianity encounters the medieval education through the medieval art such as icon, architecture, and sculpture. In this sense, this study contributes to integrating and reinterpreting history, religion, theology, aesthetics of the middle age in terms of the medieval education. The art played a role as an educational media that introduced and mediated the Biblical story to illiterate Christians in the middle age. This study concludes that the medieval art was the educational media to transform the Biblical story into the visual and sensorial text. Finally, this study matches the mystical education with the Byzantine and the symbolical education with the Romanesque.
