문화적 학습양식과 뇌 발달 = Cultural Learning Style and Brain Development

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 인간학습에 기초를 제공하는 두 축으로서 "뇌"와 "문화"를 상정하고, 인간이 획득하는 다양한 학습양식이 문화적 맥락과 어떠한 관련을 가지는지, 그것은 뇌 발달과 어떤 관련이 있는지에 대하여 살펴보고자 하였다. 지금껏 문화와 뇌의 발달 간 상호관련성에 관한 논의는 그 성격상 실증적 자료를 축적하기 어려운 상황이었으며 그에 대한 논의 역시 거의 이루어져 오지 않았다. 그러나 인간에 대한 심층적인 이해를 바탕으로 그 가능성을 확장시키는 일이 교육학의 과제라면, ``뇌 발달``과 ``문화``의 관련성을 탐색하는 일은 인간에 대한 보다 다각적인 이해를 토대로 하여 교육에 접근하는 하나의 방식이 될 수 있을 것이다. 이 연구에서는 ``문화``와 ``뇌 발달``의 관련성을 ``문화적 학습양식``이라는 개념을 통하여 접근하고, 이에 대한 이해가 어떤 교육적 시사점을 갖는지 살펴보고자 한다. 교육의 장면에서 문화적 학습양식의 개념을 수용하고 존중하는 일은 인간의 개별성을 존중하고 자기주도적 학습을 북돋우며 교육환경을 풍부하게 할 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 이를 위해서는 다음과 같은 노력이 필요하다. 첫째, 학습자로 하여금 학습의 생물학적 토대인 자신의 뇌 작동 기제와 일상적 삶을 되돌아 봄으로써 스스로의 학습과정을 이해하는 일이 필요하다. 이는 곧 학습자가 자신의 가능성을 확장하는 태도를 갖게 하는 일과 관련되어 있다. 둘째, 인지체제의 문화구속성으로 인해 나타나는 독특한 학습양식을 "옳고 그른" 것이 아닌 "다름"으로 존중할 수 있는 공감대를 형성하고 개별 학습자에게 최적화된 학습방식을 허용하고 안내하기 위해 유연한 교육과정이 필요하다. 셋째, 개별학습자의 학습 특성에 대한 원자료들을 풍부하게 확보하기 위해서 학습과정에 대한 기술과 해석의 축적이 필요하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationship between cultural context and learning style, and to find the way of mechanism for brain development. By influencing on the formation of cognitive pattern, culture have potent effect on the learning style. And cultural experiences build the nervous pathway by deciding the way of connection between neurons. Like this, brain and learning have a complementary connection through the interaction. In an educational situation, it is needed the respective attitude of the various learning style, which encourage the demand-driven learning and build a abundant educational environment. I propose some suggestion for the improvement of educational situation. First, learners have to understand the self which consist of the brain and daily life and interconnection between them. Second, "difference" should be accepted a logical conclusion in the concrete educational situation. And then, we have to permit the best suited situation for individual learners and appropriate curriculum. Third, we have to pile up the data which descript and interpret the process of individual learning process.
