보수 이념과 문학 정전의 존재 방식 = <영웅시대>를 통해 본 사대부의식과 반공주의

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper analyzes Age of Hero by Lee, Moonyeol and discusses conservative ideology running through it, by which modern Korean literature was governed. For a literary work to become a canon involves not only its literary qualities but its social context and the way the ruling class governs. With respect to it, certain literary works can be said to meet a set of requirements necessary to be a canon, and they are repeatedly introduced in textbooks and literary selections. However, considering that a literary canon reflects a particular period, thus excluding diversity or distinctiveness, it must be inevitable that it be reconstructed. It was the Korean Civil War, the division of Korea, and the unique social context that heavily contributed for conservative literary works to be recognized as the mainstream in Korea`s post-war literature. Although Korea is still divided by the barbed-wire fence with conservatism firmly entrenched in it, the existing main trends should be questioned due to their repressive quality. The characters in Age of Hero, their strong hostility and antagonism against ideology, explicitly show how communism distorts human dignity. Besides, the sense of elitism of the main character, which implies self-righteousness and exclusion denying others, is out of keeping with today`s society where diverse values and cultures are given due weight. The more diversity grows in society, the higher level of tolerance, or admitting differences is called for. Providing that authoritative ideology oppresses and disapproves of differences, it can be said to completely shut off a chance for a better life. The canon must promote freedom and happiness by identifying certain norms of life, which is only possible through continual reconstruction of the list. That is how the canon keeps its identity alive.
