중학생의 그릿(노력지속, 흥미유지)과 학업성취도 간의 관계: 학업열의 매개효과를 중심으로 = Relationship between Grit and Academic Achievement in Middle School Students : The Mediating Effect of Academic Engagement

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed to investigate the mediating effects of academic engagement on the relationship between grit and academic achievement in middle schoolers. Data on 2,471 middle school students from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018 database were collected for this study. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlation between grit, academic engagement, and academic achievement. Using the multiple regression model proposed by Baron and Kenny, we analyzed the mediating effects of academic engagement. Correlations were observed between grit (perseverance and consistency of interest), academic engagement, and academic achievement. Academic engagement has a partially mediating effect between perseverance of effort and academic achievement and a full mediating effect between consistency of interest and academic achievement. These results suggest that grit and academic engagement should be considered as factors that improve academic achievement. Therefore, it is necessary to develop various methods to improve middle school students’ grit and academic achievement.
