Cultural Diversity Awareness with Hermeneutics and Liminoid Experience

The question on whether foreign films can influence a person’s cultural awareness in relation to hermeneutics and liminoid experience is answered in this study. Thirteen participants, identified through convenience sampling, were asked to answer an online questionnaire designed to find out whether cultural diversity awareness is activated when watching foreign films. Respondents of the study are from one of California State Universities who were asked to watch different foreign films before being asked to answer the questionnaire. Dedoose software was made to code the data. Furthermore, literary review from scholars in hermeneutics, liminality, and cultural communication were used to provide the theoretical background of this study.
This study is only a backdrop to what can be done to interpret meaningful analysis regarding cultures. Further empirical validation in learning how another culture behaves when watching foreign film may give meaningful data. For the purposes of this study, the hermeneutics and the hypothetico-deductive method applied cultural interpretation uniquely to gain cultural knowledge and insight. Especially, to applied cultural interpretation between what are knowledge or truth, and the unknown material to draw meaning from it all. This study has a wide scope of possibilities that can be directed in numerous fields of disciplines, as a cultural experience and interpretation cannot be limited to one field of study. Conversely, for future study, the emphasis will be towards intercultural and international principles to discover how hermeneutics and liminality space, or liminoid experience influence cultural vigilance. Further study is needed to analyze issues on cultural diversity, such as an observation of underlying principles on how individuals rely on their concrete experiences versus abstract concepts in the way they adapt to new encounters.
