As the management environment of corporations is atypical and faces very complex problems, competition among them is increasingly fierce. In this environment, more and more companies perform business by the team unit and place more importance on the roles and responsibilities of the members. Responding to these trends, corporate education provides teaching methods for learners to take active part in for the changes of the times and the production of creative talents. This study set out to investigate the effects of team learning behavior on interactions within the team via project learning among the employees of financial firms and test whether student engagement would have mediating effects on relations between team learning behavior and interactions within the team. The study thus aimed to provide implications for corporate education so that learner-centric educational methods would have effects on corporate performance.
For these purposes, the study set the following hypotheses: first, team learning behavior would have significant effects on interactions within the team in corporate project based learning; second, team learning behavior would have significant effects on individuals' student engagement in corporate project based learning; third, individuals' student engagement would have significant effects on interactions within the team in corporate project based learning; and fourth, student engagement would have mediating effects on relations between team learning behavior and interactions within the team in corporate project based learning. In an effort to test these research questions, the investigator conducted a survey with employees doing various jobs at financial firms and used total 224 questionnaires in analysis. The SPSS Version 22.0 and AMOS Version 22.0 programs were used in statistical analysis. The findings were as follows:
First, there were significant structural relations among team learning behavior, individuals' student engagement, and interactions within the team in corporate project based learning with participation in learning having partial mediating effects between team learning behavior and interactions within the team.
Second, team learning behavior had significant impacts on interactions within the team. Specifically, reflective communication, a subfactor of team learning behavior, had the greatest impacts on interactions within the team.
Third, team learning behavior had significant influences on student engagement. Specifically, reflective communication, a subfactor of team learning behavior, had the biggest influences on student engagement.
Lastly, student engagement had significant effects on interactions within the team. Specifically, behavioral flow had the biggest effects on interactions within the team.
Based on these findings, the study made the following proposals for follow-up study: first, the study limited the scope of subject sampling to financial firms. If the scope is expanded to more diverse businesses, more reliable findings will be generated. Secondly, the study used a Likert scale based on a self-administered questionnaire to analyze the variables. There is a need to try other methods of measurement including interviews and observations. Thirdly, positive results will be generated across various fields if there are efforts to define characteristics that should be considered importantly in collaborative learning and propose diverse variables to reflect the characteristics for a research model.
