영웅군담소설의 연구사적 조망 = Paper : Historical Prospect of Heroic Martial Novels

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Based on the previous studies on the heroic martial novels, this paper aims to explore three main issues: firstly, how has the understanding/perception of the heroic martial novels been formed and changed; secondly, how can the heroic martial novels be conceptualized; thirdly, what kind of perspective should be taken in order to have the appropriate understanding of the heroic martial novels. With regard to the first issue, the concept of the heroic martial novels has been changed from martial novels to heroic novels and the concept of heroic novels also has changed from ``the novel which has the biography of a hero as its main structure`` to ``the novel which has the separation and reunion of the family as its structure``. Conceptualization of the heroic martial novels as ``the epic of the family`` raises problems. With regard to the second issue, focusing on the conflicts and the solution of the conflicts, the heroic martial novels should be defined and conceptualized as ``the novel which shows that the hero with the mandate from heaven restores the Chinese-oriented national order disrupted/overturned by the invasion of the foreign enemies through the martial confrontation. Besides, the narrative of the heroic martial novels consists of the two narrative axles: ``the epic of the nation`` and ``the epic of the family``. The core of its concept is ``the epic of the nation``, but the center of the interpretation is not fixed. With regard to the third issue, to get to the right understanding of the heroic martial novels, in approaching it, the microscopic perspective which centers on the particular narrative story only should be abandoned, and rather, the macroscopic perspective which centers on ``the epic of the nation`` should be taken.
