The purpose of this research is to analyze empirically the influencing factors on the intentions to buy households’ own home in consideration of the changes of housing tenures in the Korean housing market. The empirical analyses were conducted using the 2014 Newlyweds’ National Housing Panel Survey, and explanatory variables were household’s attributes, housing consciousness, and housing assistance and institution. Regarding the results of the empirical analyses, firstly, not only the household’s attributes but also the housing consciousness and housing institutions were significant factors on the intentions to buy home. Secondly, the influencing determinants were differentiated by the city scale and the home owning type. Thirdly, the households who live in the Seoul Metropolitan Region and the renter households had no intention to buy own homes, and public rental housing was recognized as an alternative materials of owner-occupied housing. This study suggests the applications of differentiated housing policies related to home ownership by the locally and socio-economically categorized household class.
