Schisandra chinensis Baill.is traditional oriental medicine. It commonly used for the treatment of insommia, noctyrnal enuresis, dysentery, cough, asthma, and jaundice. Repeated chromatography of n-hexane, EtOAc soluble fraction of the fruits of S.chinensis led to the isolation and chararacterization of ten lignans (1-10), four sesquiterpenes (11-14), three phenols (17-19), one alkaloid (16), one triterpenoid (15) known compounds. The structures were determined by spectroscopic data interpretation particularly by extensive 1D and 2D NMR studies. Among these isolated compounds, ρ-methoxycavacroland indole-3-acetic acid were isolated from the fruits of S. chinensis for the first time. This is the first time to report that β-chamigrenal, a sesquiterpenes, isolated from S. chinensis effectively inhibited the LPS-induced production of NO and PGE2 in RAW 264.7 macrophages.
