언론의 이념 성향과 도덕 체계 :《조선일보》와 《한겨레》의 복지 관련 사설 비교 분석 = News Media’s Ideological Orientation and Their Moral System Comparison of Editorials of 《Chosun-Ilbo》 and 《Hankyoreh

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The influence of news media’s ideological orientation on news stories has been one of main topics in journalism and mass communication studies.
Empirical analyses in Korea have shown the different discourses, frames, themes, and sources in news stories covering North Korea, social welfare, education, economy and etc. according to ideological orientation of news media. However, research on news media’s ideological orientation itself is hard to find out even though it has been supposed to be the main cause of the differences in news stories. Based on the review of the literatures on political philosophy, political thoght and political psychology, this study examined the possibility of ‘moral system’, i.e. moral foundations and moral frames, entrenched in news stories to be a dimension of ideological orientation of news media. Specifically, this study compared the editorials concerning social welfare policy of conservative 《Chosun-Ilbo》 and progressive 《Hankyoreh》, two of most influential daily newspapers in Korea. The results show that conservative 《Chosun-Ilbo》 emphasizes the moral foundations of ‘fairness(cheating)’ and ‘authority (subversion)’, and moral frame of ‘strict father’ while 《Hankyoreh》 focuses more on the moral foundations of ‘care (harm)’ and ‘liberty·equality (oppression)’, and moral frame of ‘nurturant parents.’ The different moral system representing news media’s ideological orientation is identified, as expected. The implication of the results in journalism and society is discussed.
