양성적인 시각에서 본 헤밍웨이의 에코페미니즘

국문 초록 (Abstract)

기존의 페미니즘이론의 새로운 대안적인 화두로 떠오르고 있는 에코페미니즘을 헤밍웨이 문학에 접목시킴으로써 여성과 자연 모두가 평가 절하되고 있는 사회에서 사회구조 재건의 필요성을 더 잘 이해하고, 강인한 생의 원동력을 제공하기위해 필연적인 연구라고 사료된다. 이러한 연구는 문학적인 측면은 물론이고 사회학적, 생태학적으로도 획기적인 방향을 제시해 준다. 본 연구를 보다 효과적인 성과를 거두기 위해서 헤밍웨이의 주요작품인 「인디언 부락」(Indian Camp)과 『태양은 또다시 떠 오른다』(The Sun Also Rises), 『누구를 위하여 종은 울리는가』(For Whom the Bell Tolls) 그리고 『노인과 바다』(The Old Man and the Sea)의 네 작품에 나오는 여성화 또는 양성화된 인물들을 에코페미니즘이라는 새로운 각도에서 접근하여 그들이 가진 주체적인 인간으로 작품에 등장하고 있음을 규명하는 동시에 작품 속에서의 그들의 역할을 고찰하는데 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Ernest Hemingway is generally thought of an antifeminist writer, but the vertical main theme in his works is mankind's universal concern of the relation between men and women. So far Hemingway's characters have been studied and classified into ideal or destructive characters, but in this study they are scrutinized on the base of ecofeminism as androgynous vision.
A lot of attention has been paid to Ernest Hemingway's themes and styles from the beginning of criticisms on his works, however the characters in his works have been neglected on the whole, subordinated to enhance men's position in his works and generally regarded as “boring and unreal.” This study attempts to approach the fictional characters in Hemingway's works from a new point of view: to clarify their subjective appearance as women of complex personalities and strong selves, and to consider their functions as performed in his works. The fictional women are to be studied in terms of their love relationship with men, because their characteristic features are most concretely revealed in that relationship.
