This study aims to consider a girl's the diaspora identity and multicultural feature that in O, Jung-hui's The Chinese Street. The girl experienced the Korean War and grew to a woman. To analyze diaspora experiences that are in ‘space' and about ‘the other', this study reveals the literature sensitivity of Korean war represented in O, Jung-hui's novels.
O, Jung-hui gives shape to the war-experiences war represented in A childhood' garden, The Chinese Street. A Spirit of Wind. Especially The Chinese Street foregrounds various refugees’ experiences after the Korean War. A girl moves to unfamiliar city that named In-Chun. She sees spaces that give a hint of Korean War and meets with various human races. Her identity is constituted as ambiguous-being and imperfection-sex. Just she dreams return of the self-womb as the source of being. That means the diaspora identity to reveal the fear in multicultural-space and the rejection to the other.
The Chinese Street throws a light on politic-diaspora, racial dis- crimination, rhetoric-paranoia, exotic-desire, and violence to express the cultural politics about woman and human-being in modern state experienced a war.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 오정희의 中國人 거리에 나타난 ‘移住의 經驗’을 ‘空間’과 ‘他者’ 인식 차원에서 분석함으로써, 전쟁 체험을 內面化하는 자아의 ‘디아스포라 정체성’과 그 탈근대적 성격을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. ‘女性’과 ‘成長’, ‘生의 悲劇性’ 등 오정희 소설을 연구해왔던 일반적인 시각들의 한계를 지적하고, 오정희 문학에서 戰爭 體驗이 만들어낸 문학적 감수성을 보다 根源的인 차원에서 밝히려고 한다. 전쟁 체험은 오정희의 幼年의 뜰, 中國人 거리, 바람의 넋 등에서 다양한 방식과 형식으로 표현되었다. 특히 中國人 거리는 전쟁 이후 避難民의 이주와 경험이 전면화된 작품이다. 下位主體인 여자아이는 피난지인 都市의 내면화된 이데올로기를 감각적으로 드러내며, 자신의 정체성으로 還元되지 않는 텅빈 자궁에 대해 恐怖를 느낀다. 또한 피난지에서 만난 타자와의 배타적 관계를 통해 모호한 디아스포라 정체성을 確認한다.
