몬테소리 평화교육 프로그램이 유아의 사회·정서 발달에 미치는 효과 = The Effects of Montessori's Peace Program on Young Children's Socio-Emotional Development

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 유아에게 평화와 비폭력에 대한 개념을 구성할 수 있는 몬테소리 평화교육 프로그램이 유아의 사회․정서 발달에 실질적으로 도움이 되는지를 알아보기 위해 유치원 현장에 적용하여 검증해 봄으로써 유아의 사회․정서 발달에 효과를 높일 수 있는 방안을 모색해 보고, 유아교육 현장에서 활용할 수 있는 교육방법의 개발에 기여하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다.
본 연구의 대상은 D시에 위치한 두 개의 유치원에 재원중인 만 5세 유아 54명으로 27명을 실험집단으로 27명을 통제집단으로 구성하였다. 연구도구는 한국행동과학연구소(허형 등, 1978)에서 개발한 사회․정서 발달 평정척도를 사용하여 사전, 사후검사를 실시함으로써 몬테소리 평화교육 프로그램이 유아의 사회․정서 발달에 효과가 있는지를 살펴보았다.
연구절차는 활동구성, 예비연구, 검사도구 선정, 관찰자 훈련, 사전검사 등의 순으로 진행하였다. 본 실험은 실험집단은 몬테소리 평화교육을 자유선택활동시간 및 이야기 나누기 시간을 통해 10주간 50회 실시하였으며, 통제집단은 제 7차 유치원 교육과정을 근거한 생활주제에 따른 통합교육 활동을 실시하였다. 자료 분석을 위하여 사전검사 점수를 공변인으로 하여 사후검사에 대한 공분산분석(ANCOVA)을 실시하였다.
연구결과는 몬테소리 평화교육 프로그램이 유아의 사회․정서 발달에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 몬테소리 평화교육 프로그램에 참여한 유아들이 자기인식, 사회인식, 문화인식, 환경인식에 대한 이야기 나누기와 구체적 작업을 통해 자연스럽게 자신이 속한 집단의 규범을 이해하고 타인을 존중하며, 의사소통 기술이 향상되어 사회․정서 발달에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 유아교육 현장에 적용할 수 있는 몬테소리 평화교육 프로그램에 대한 더 많은 연구와 활동이 이루어질 필요가 있다고 하겠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to find out the ways which would enhance children's socio-emotional development by adopting Montessori's peace program into early childhood education and making a contribution to the development of educational methods applicable to the early childhood education.
For this purpose, 54 kindergarteners were chosen as an experimental and a control group, each consisted of 27 kindergarteners at the age of 5 in 2 kindergartens which were located in D city. By performing pre-test and post-test using rating socio-emotional development scale by Huh et al.(1978), whether Montessori's peace program would be effective on children's socio-emotional development was analyzed.
The research procedures proceeded in the order of activities organization, preliminary study, tester training, pre-test, activities implementing and post-test. The experiment consisted of total 50 sessions of Montessori's peace program activities for 10 weeks. The control group took a class of general curriculum based on the 2007 Kindergarten Curriculum. ANCOVA was performed by controlling the pre-test scores as a covariate to analyze the statistics of the data.
The results of the study proved that Montessori's peace program had positive effects on children's socio-emotional development. The results clearly showed that the children who participated in Montessori's peace program could understand the rules of groups naturally, respect others, and enhance communication skills through using story telling and specific works on self cognition, social cognition, cultural cognition and environmental cognition. In following study, in-depth studies and researches applicable to Montessori's peace program should be needed.
