배우자 사별 노인의 비공식적 도움요청행동과 복합비애의 관계 = The Relationship between Informal Help-Seeking Behavior and Complicated Grief among Widowed Older Adults

국문 초록 (Abstract)

비공식적 도움요청행동은 정신건강 문제를 완화하는 주요 보호요인으로 주목받고 있으나, 배우자 사별 노인을 대상으로 가족 및 친구 등 구체적인 지원 대상에 따른 비공식적 도움요청행동과 복합비애 간의 관계를 실증적으로 규명한 연구는 여전히 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 배우자 사별 노인의 비공식적 도움요청행동과 복합비애 간의 관계를 실증적으로 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2020년 춘천노인실태조사 자료를 활용하여 배우자 사별 노인 520명을 최종 분석대상으로 선정하였다. 복합비애를 종속변수로, 비공식적 도움요청행동(가족·친척에게 도움을 요청함, 친구·이웃에게 도움을 요청함, 도움을 요청하지 않음)을 독립변수로 설정하였으며, 주요 인구사회학적, 노인우울증상 및 사회적 관계 변수를 통제한 상태에서 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 가족·친척에게 도움을 요청한 경우와 친구·이웃에게 도움을 요청한 경우는 모두 도움을 요청하지 않은 집단에 비해 복합비애 수준이 유의미하게 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 비공식적 도움요청행동이 배우자 사별 노인의 복합비애를 완화하는 보호요인으로 작용함을 보여준다. 따라서 배우자 사별 노인의 비공식적 도움요청행동을 촉진하기 위한 전략 수립과 지역사회 기반 통합적 애도지원체계 구축의 필요성을 시사한다.

Informal help-seeking behavior has been recognized as a key protective factor in alleviating mental health problems. However, empirical studies examining the relationship between informal help-seeking behavior, particularly across specific support sources such as family and friends, and complicated grief among widowed older adults remain limited. This study aimed to empirically examine the relationship between informal help-seeking behavior and complicated grief among widowed older adults. Data were drawn from the 2020 Chuncheon Elderly Life Survey, and a total of 520 widowed older adults were included in the final analysis. Complicated grief was the dependent variable, and informal help-seeking behavior (seeking help from family and relatives, seeking help from friends and neighbors, and not seeking help) was the independent variable. Multiple regression analysis was conducted while controlling for key sociodemographic, depression, and social relationship variables. The results showed that older adults who sought help from family and relatives and those who sought help from friends and neighbors had significantly lower levels of complicated grief than those who did not seek help. These findings suggest that informal help-seeking behavior serves as a protective factor in alleviating complicated grief among widowed older adults. Accordingly, the study highlights the need to develop strategies to promote informal help-seeking behavior and to establish community-based integrated bereavement support systems for widowed older adults.
