이미지와 소리의 미학적 변주

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research was designed under the presumption that the aesthetic dismantlement of image and sound simultaneously occurred with media integration. Therefore, the study does not regard visualism and auditorism in a simply antagonistic relationship, but intends to reorganize the history of the reciprocal intersection between sound and image. Thus, by restoring the restricted discourse on sound that exists beyond the culture phenomena which had consistently focused on image, the study examines this discourse on sound in concrete culture phenomena. The purpose of this research is to explore the correlation between auditory culture and visual culture from ancient times to the modern technological media era in a philosophical and aesthetic context. Moreover, the study identifies the reciprocal relation between image and sound in concrete culture phenomena, including literature, philosophy, music, paintings, film, video art, media art, digital art, etc. The study findings will consequently explain the fundamental properties and meaning of auditory culture, which is being illuminated in this digital era.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 출발점은 이미지와 소리의 미학적 변주가 중심이 해체되고 매체융합이 일어나는 시점과 일치하고 있다는 명제이다. 따라서 본 연구는 시각주의와 청각주의를 단순히 이원론적 대립구도 속에서 보는 것이 아니라 소리와 이미지의 상호교차성의 역사를 재구성하고자 한다. 그럼으로써 이미지 중심으로 일관되고 있는 문화현상들 넘어 존재하고 있는 억압된 소리의 담론을 복권시켜 구체적인 문화현상들에서 그것을 확인해보고자 한다.
본 연구의 목적은 이미지 중심의 문화연구로부터 벗어나 청각문화와 시각문화의 상관관계를 고대로부터 현대기술매체시대에 이르기까지 철학적, 미학적 시대 맥락 속에서 살펴보는 것이다. 이와 함께 문학, 철학, 음악, 회화, 영화, 비디오아트 및 미디어아트, 디지털아트 등 구체적인 문화현상들에서 이미지와 소리의 상관관계를 밝힐 것이다. 나아가 이러한 고찰을 통하여 디지털 시대에 다시금 조명 받고 있는 소리문화의 근본 속성과 그 의미를 부각시키고자 한다.
