This study was performed to obserce cytotoxic effect of herbs and spices(Cassia, Clove, Rosemary, all spice, Star anise) that showed superoxide dismutase(SOD)like activity and nitrate scavenging activity aganist A427(human lung carcinoma, KCLB 30053), A498(human kidney carcinoma, KCLB 30044), HeLa(human cervix adenocarcinoma, KCLB 10002), MCF7(human breast adenocarcinoma, KCLB 30022), MKN-45(human stomach adenocarcinoma, KCLB 80103), SK-HEP-1(human liver adenocarcinoma, KCLB 30052), T98G(human brain glioblastoma multiformae, KCLB 21690) Cancer Cell Lines using MTT(3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay.
The water extracts of herbs and spices were obtained by heat treatments of 25℃ for 60 mins or 100℃ for 10mins. The cytotoxic effects were highest measured Clove of herbs and spices respectively. The cytotoxic effects of Clove has showed 50% of the cell death rate against human cervix adenocarcinoma cell lines(HeLa) and human breast adenocarcinoma cell lines(MCF7) at 5㎎/㎖.
