송출국 사회 ‘장’의 역학과 ‘준최선’의 선택 : 중국 서예가들의 한국 대학원 이중언어학위과정 유학 실천을 중심으로 = Dynamics of the Social ‘Field’ in the Sending Country and ‘Second-best’ Choices

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 학령인구 감소로 인한 한국 대학의 위기 속에서 고등교육 국제화의 대안 중의 하나로 부각된 ‘이중언어학위과정’의 교육사회학적 함의를 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 중국 서예가들이 서예의 종주국을 떠나 한국 대학원 이중언어학위과정에서 서예교육을 공부하는 이례적인 초국적 유학 실천에 주목하였으며, 한국의 한 지방도시에 위치한 S대 이중언어학위과정에서 서예교육 박사과정을 이수하고 있는 중국인 서예가 8인을 연구대상으로 선정하여 심층인터뷰 기법을 활용한 사례연구를 진행하였다. 연구결과, 중국 서예가들의 이중언어학위과정 유학 동기는 코로나19 팬데믹 이후 중국 사회의 예술 ‘장’과 사교육 ‘장’의 직업적 불안정성에서 기인하며, 이들의 이중언어학위과정 입학은 중국 국내사회 ‘장’의 구조적 역학 속에서 교수사회 진입을 위한 필수 문턱을 넘어서기 위한 ‘준최선’의 전략적 실천임을 규명할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과는 한국 대학들이 향후 효과적인 이중언어학위과정을 운영하는 데 중요한 시사점을 제공해주고 있다.

Amid the higher education crisis in South Korea driven by a declining school-age population, this study investigates the socio-educational implications of “Bilingual Graduate Degree Programs.” Drawing upon Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory, it analyzes the motivations behind the unique transnational educational practices of Chinese calligraphers within the structural dynamics of China, the sending country. Methodologically, a qualitative case study was conducted through in-depth interviews with eight Chinese calligraphers enrolled in a doctoral program in calligraphy education in South Korea. The findings reveal that the participants' choice of bilingual programs is deeply rooted in the severe occupational instability within the artistic and private tutoring fields of post-pandemic China. Concurrently, their enrollment constitutes a ‘second-best’ strategic practice designed to overcome domestic structural barriers and cross the essential threshold into the professoriate. These insights offer valuable implications for South Korean higher education institutions operating bilingual degree programs in the future.
