1987년 대선과 후보 단일화 논쟁의 비판적 재평가

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

South Korean presidential election in 1987 that was the most dramatic political change in Korean modern history ended in failure to opposition parties and democratic movements. This article is a case study on relationships and characteristics between the Kim Dae Jung and Kim Young Sam who were oppositional party reader. Most of all studies have pointed out emotional conflict and rivalry competition of two politicians to cause of defeats of the election. This paper more lay emphasis on institutional and empirical context which collapsed coalitions of the two Kim’s candidate prior to an election. At that time, the most necessary measures were institutional solutions that could coordinate and modulate two Kim’s for candidacy unification. The failure of candidacy unification and defeats of 1987 election result handed over some unfavourable legacies, including divisive regionalism, an underdeveloped party system, an imperial but weak and ineffective presidency and political corruption.
