This study tried to know family psychological environment perceived by middle school students and how it affects their school maladjustment. For this study, the survey was conducted on six classes of grade 1 and grade 3 each in creative discretionary activity class of N middle school. This school consists of boys and girls located in Seo-gu, Dae-jeon. There are 372 students. I included 351 questionnaires and excluded 21 questionnaires which did not have earnestness. 172 questionnaires are from grade 1, 179 questionnaires are from grade 3.
I extracted and edited the family psychological environment measurement from Family Psychological Process Measurement by Won-sik Jung(1992). The school maladjustment measurement is from School Maladjustment Behavior Measurement by Gun-so Park(2003). These measurements are used in this study. Using these measurements, I controlled parents socio-economic status(job, living standards, school free meals, education) about teacher relations, peer relations, learning activity relations, compliance of school rules which are the variables constructing school maladjustment. Then, I did hierarchical regression to compare the influence of family psychological environment(achievement, openness, love, autonomy). I did groups analysis to know the school maladjustment and the relation differences according to grade(grade 1 and grade 3) and sex. I also used SPSS 17.0 which is the analysis program.
These are the results of the study.
Even though it could be a weak explanation because of low numerical school maladjustment action, there is meaningful negative relation between family psychological environment and their school maladjustment. It means that if students perceive family psychological environment negatively, the school maladjustment would get progressively higher. On the relation of variables, teacher relations, peer relations, learning activity relations, compliance of school rules have high negative relation of openness of family. According to these results, we can see that if middle school students grow up in an open family environment, their school adjustment would get progressively higher.
Based on these results, I clarified the relation between family environment which is an important factor for teenagers and school maladjustment. I will try to promote teenagers proper growth and adjustment. I also would like to provide an academic foundation.
