우주개발과 지속가능성 = Development of Outer Space & Sustainability

국문 초록 (Abstract)

활발한 우주개발과 함께 우주쓰레기가 대량 양산되고 있다. 우주쓰레기는 작은 파편도 그 속도가 빨라 인공위성이나 우주비행사와 부딪힐 경우 파괴력이 크다. 우주쓰레기는 인간의 우주 활동에 큰 지장을 줄 뿐만 아니라 대기권으로 진입할 경우 지구에서의 인명 피해나 방사능 오염 등 2차 피해도 심각하다. 심각해지는 우주쓰레기 문제 해결을 위해 국제협약이 체결되고 우주쓰레기 감축을 위한 가이드라인이 제정되며, 우주쓰레기 제거 기술 개발이 이루어지고 있다. 산업혁명으로 인해 지구가 오염되었듯이 이제는 우주개발로 우주는 물론 지구의 환경까지 오염되고 있다. 우주개발은 학문적, 군사적, 통신 목적 등을 위해 현세대는 물론 미래 세대를 위해서도 필수적이다. 환경을 고려하지 않은 무분별한 우주 개발은 지구를 지속불가능하게 만들 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 우주개발도 지속가능성에 입각하여 이루어져야 함을 고찰하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Active development of outer space brought about numerous space debris. Space debris, even small ones, have enormous destructive power while colliding with artificial satellites or astronauts as they rotate with ultra-high speed. In addition that space debris are an obstacle to the human activity of space development, they do serious harm to human beings and the environment of the globe. To resolve this space debris issue, diverse efforts are being made such as making international treaties, making guidelines for space debris mitigation, or developing technology for their removal. As the globe has been contaminated by the development since the industrial revolution, now it has been contaminated by the space development. Development of space is essential for scientific, military, or commercial purposes. Development of space is also important not only to present generation but also future generation. to present generations and even to future generations. However, development of outer space with no consideration of space environment will make the globe unsustainable. Therefore, this study concludes that outer space has to be developed based on the philosophy of sustainability.
