      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to probe the effect of the genre-based teaching approach on the English reading ability of L2 learners at beginning and advanced levels. There is little known about how the genre-based teaching approach is related to L2 reading ability due to a lack of studies. Therefore, this study investigated how genre-based teaching approach affects the reading ability of L2 learners. The genre-based teaching approach was conducted for 45 college students for 15 weeks. The results show that the genre-based teaching approach had a significant influence on the participants in both levels, but more on the advanced ones. Reading comprehension was significantly improved for both beginning and advanced learners. This means the reading ability of the advanced L2 learners improved significantly more than it did for the beginners. The result implicates that L2 teachers should consider the language levels of L2 learners when they apply the genre-based teaching approach to English classes. (Anyang University)
