사회자본 투자의 경제사회학적 분석 = 기업의 사적 네트워크 투자가 경영성과에 미치는 영향을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

대우그룹이나 미국의 엔론(Enron) 사태처럼 최근 발생한 국내외 대기업들의 잇따른 회계부정 사건은 윤리문제의 중요성을 새삼 일깨워 주고 있다. 이는 경영성과가 아무리 높아도 기업윤리의식이 희박할 경우 시장과 사회의 신뢰를 상실하여 결국 기업의 문을 닫게 된다는 사실을 재확인시켜 주었기 때문이다. 국내에서도 외환위기 이후 기업의 사회적 책임에 대한 국민들의 기대심리가 더욱 높아짐에 따라 윤리경영에 대한 국내기업들의 관심도 크게 증가하고 있다. 하지만 국내기업들의 윤리경영 의지 표명이 실제로 구현되고 있는가에 대해서는 의문의 여지가 있다. 그보다는 학연과 지연을 바탕으로 한 인간관계가 기업의 경영활동에 있어 여전히 중요한 부분으로 남아있으며 제품의 품질 향상이나 기술혁신보다도 거래당사자간의 인간관계가 기업활동에 있어서 더 중요하게 간주된다. 본 연구는 국내기업들의 경영활동에 있어서 공무원들과의 사적 네트워크의 형성과 유지에 드는 비용, 즉 사회자본에의 투자가 기업의 수익성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 알아보고자 하는 목적으로 이루어졌다. 구체적으로 어떠한 특성을 가진기업들에서 공무원들과의 네트워크 형성과 유지를 위한 투자가 경영상의 수익으로 나타나는 지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구결과 조직 연령이 중요한 조건으로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 오래된 기업들의 경우 계약을 보증받기 위해 별도로 지불을 할수록, 그리고 수익 중 비공식적인 지불을 할수록 영업이익률이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 투자와 효과성은 기업들의 여러 가지 특성들과 사회적인 구조와 가치 등과 결부시킬 수 있어야 보다 정확하게 분석될 수 있으며, 사회자본 투자의 효과는 숙성을 거쳐야만 빛을 발한다는 점을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Today business ethics are regarded as an important tool in embedding the way in which companies make profits and work for society. For company, trust from society would be a crucial social capital. In this respect, moral management is one of the best way in which a company can get trust from society. Thus, many companies are concerned about values like integrity and develope moral management to foster responsible behaviour of their employees, because they find that social responsibility pays off. This study refines the relationships between social capital investment and making profits. This study begins to explore the four perspectives concerning relationships between trust and profits: win-win perspective in which trust generates the highest profits; a license-to-operate perspective in which a minimum trust is required to receive legitimation from the society; an acceptable profits perspective, in which an acceptable profitability is required to assure the financial continuity; and an integrate perspective. This study attempts to clarify the relationships between social networks and profits. Ethical behaviour is not always rewarded by a competitive advantage over companies that are not ethical. Neither is unethical behaviour always pushed. In particular, this research interest is centered around the effects on investment of social capital. This study found that company's established year is the most crucial variable to create profits related to social network investment. This study implies that the company which has a long history can earn the positive outcomes through the investment to social networks.
